Highway 401's route through Toronto carries more cars per day than any other stretch of highway in the world. To carry such incredible volumes efficiently, the highway uses a system of collectors and express lanes. This allows motorists to pass through the city on express lanes while local traffic as well as vehicles getting on and off the highway are carried by collectors lanes. At one point on the 401, east of the Highway 400 interchange and west of Keele Street, express lanes and collectors lanes criss-cross over one another at a feature known as "The Basketweave". In today's Photo of the Day, submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Oscar Flores, we get a unique view of The Basketweave, facing northeast as seen from a building located just south of Highway 401
