A new condominium development is coming to Clarkson Village in Mississauga with' The Craftsman Condominium Residences. The 300-suite mid-rise project is being developed by the VANDYK Group of Companies, a developer with a long history in the western GTA and beyond. The Craftsman takes name from the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 1800s, and its architectural cues from the tenets of the Prairie Style, first established by the famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright who was heavily influenced by the movement. The building, designed by SMV Architects, will take the form of three connected four-storey wings in the shape of an elongated ‘W’ along the north side of Clarkson's main drag, Lakeshore Road.

The Craftsman's exterior will be finished in a warm mixture of stone and brick, arranged to emphasize the horizontal over the vertical, while the 'divided lights' of the windows frame views from the suites to the verdant surroundings. Long, wide balconies, generous overhanging eaves along the roofline, and a welcoming porte cochère all maximize The Craftsman's sense of shelter.

Domenic Zita, Executive Vice President of VANDYK, explained the thinking behind The Craftsman's design. “The driving force behind the architecture was to promote the lifestyle of this area,” said “To that end, we brought the nature of its surrounding natural environment inside the core of the development.”

Frank Lloyd Wright's distinctive warmth and love of geometric patterns found in nature also influences the design of the buildings's interior. The Craftsman will feature a large three-storey lobby flooded with light from floor to ceiling glazing, intricate screens, warm wood, and contemporary stone finishes.

Residents at The Craftsman will enjoy a selection amenities including the Clarkson Club, a party room/entertaining space suited for parties of up to 10, exercise areas, and gathering spaces throughout the complex to foster community interaction. Outdoor amenities include landscaped courtyards and rooftop terraces, with barbecue and dining facilities, a even fire pit and waterfall feature.

Suites at The Craftsman range in size between 602 square-feet and 1,750 square-feet. Much thought has been put into the layouts by the developer, with an emphasis on the placement of doors and even the positioning of light fixtures and electrical outlets to make furniture placement easy and intuitive, and to give the suites a comfortable flow. Outdoor private space has been carefully considered too, so on upper floors residents will appreciate large balconies, while many ground floor suites will provide comfortable patios clustered around one of the landscaped courtyards.
