As many Torontonians know, the TTC's Line 1 was built in multiple phases, with the older Yonge leg of the line being built in the early 1950s, followed by the University leg in the 1960s and the Yonge North and Spadina extensions of the 1970s. These different eras of construction have contributed to the wide range of architectural styles found on the line, with the mid-century modernism used in the early days giving way to the stark brutalist style used in the 70s. In today's Photo of the Day, submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Bryan Bonnici, we are treated to an interior view of the brutalist-style Lawrence West Station, with shadows being cast by the mullions of the station's clerestory windows.
