In the transition zone between Toronto's primarily business-oriented Financial District and mixed-use St. Lawrence neighbourhood, excavation continues to make progress at the site of Concert Properties88 Scott, a 58-storey, Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed condominium tower soon to rise from the northwest corner of Scott and Wellington Streets. The project got under way late last year, with the careful dismantling of the pre-existing seven-storey building's facade followed by demolition of the building. After the site was cleared, ground was officially broken for the project in late-March, and for the following several weeks, crews were busy driving piles into the ground in preparation of the excavation stage. By late-May, excavation was under way at the site of the future condominium tower.

It has been about three months since excavation got under way, and in the time since, the dig has made significant progress. The eastern side of the site is now approaching its lowest point at 70 feet below street level, while the western side is currently being used as a staging area for the heavy machinery involved in the dig.

With the excavation stage moving along at an impressive pace, it shouldn't be too much longer before we see the installation of a tower crane, followed by the development's rise back up to grade. Once construction of the 525-unit development is completed, residents will have access to a wide range of amenities, including lounges, a 46th/47th floor sky lounge, bar, caterers' kitchen and formal dining room. Residents will also have access to some more familiar amenities, such as a 24 hour concierge, game room, roof deck, sauna, swimming pool, a gym as well as movie and party rooms.
