While most people appreciate the charm and history of Toronto's Victorian houses, the use of modern architecture for single-family dwellings remains in the realm of architecture buffs, even though modern has been an option ever since the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright's revolutionary 'Prairie style' homes started appearing in the early 20th century. Clean lines and high-tech materials is the way to go for those who believe that the design of buildings should reflect their time however, and for those people the Toronto Modern Home Tour offers a chance to explore some of the greatest examples of today's residential architecture. Ready for you as a self-guided driving, biking, or transit and walking tour, the tour is a rare opportunity for local architects to show off their work to the general public.

Five Toronto-based architects and willing homeowners have chosen six different homes in Toronto to share with the public, including artist Charles Pachter’s home, studio, and galleries (Pachter Hall and Moose Factory) designed by Teeple Architects. Also on the tour is the “Driveway House” designed by Spaces by Rohan, a new three-story, single-family house, designed by Weiss Architecture & Urbanism Limited, the “Linear House” by Nano Design Build Inc. and two homes by LineBox Studio, including a “Tiny Town” mini-home measuring in at just 566 square feet.

Attendees can also visit the tour’s designated ‘rest stop’ - the STACKLAB showroom home of the Toronto-based multidisciplinary design and fabrication studio, led by Jeff Forrest. Complimentary refreshments will be served and tour goers can browse a collection of unique modern furniture.
