Yesterday morning saw the official unveiling of the revitalized Market Street, a small north-south thoroughfare running along the west side of Toronto's historic St. Lawrence Market, and we were there to check out the new shops, restaurants and streetscape improvements. To get a better appreciation and understanding of the work that has been done here, we turn back the clock to November of 2001, years before the revitalization project got underway.

Fast forward to the present day: the revitalized, pedestrian-friendly Market Street boasts some obvious improvements. The heritage properties on the west side of the road have been cleaned, restored, and have been fitted with patios for new cafes and restaurants, while the road and sidewalks have been repaved in a manner much more fitting of a historic street.
