One of Toronto's favourite getaway spots can be found just down the road from the Cottage Country hub of Huntsville. Deerhurst Resort's lineage can be traced back to 1896, when Charles W. Waterhouse opened a summer retreat on a four-acre lot facing Peninsula Lake that would later become a landmark in Muskoka. Originally only accessible by steamship, Deerhurst was the first major summer resort on Muskoka’s northern lakes. In its early days, Deerhurst housed only 18 bedrooms, a dining room, a smoking lounge and a verandah, with early guests paying just $3.50 a week, a price which included three meals daily.

Over the following three generations of the Waterhouse family, Deerhurst would grow to encompass over 700 acres of land as well as several multi-bedroom condominium suites and a sports and conference complex. The resort later added a golf club that would act as a catalyst for Muskoka’s emergence as a major Canadian golf destination, and in June 2010, Deerhurst made history as host venue for the 36th G8 Summit of world leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Shortly after the summit, the property joined the Skyline Hotels & Resorts collection. Deerhurst is now set to expand once again, with the newest addition to Skyline Resort Communities, Lakeside Lodge, coming soon adjacent to the site of the original building which started it all.

As the first new construction condo project at Deerhurst since the late 1980s, Lakeside Lodge will pay homage to its predecessor with an exterior design by architect Richard Wengle, meant to evoke the feel of a historic Muskoka lodge. Lakeside Lodge will feature 163 units with interiors appointed by DesignAgency, and serene views of Peninsula Lake and Sunset Bay.
