Steady progress is being made at the site of Bazis, Metropia and RioCan's E Condos, a Rosario Varacalli-designed development featuring 58 and 38-storey condominium towers soon to rise from the northeast corner of Yonge and Eglinton. To make way for the new development, the properties on site have now been demolished, except for the TD Bank branch on the corner, which will remain open until late October.
In the images above and below, we can see the north wall of the TD Bank branch, which has been hidden from view for years by the now-demolished properties to the immediate north. Hmm, where's the vault here?
A block to the north, a 7-storey, 30-unit rental apartment building at 25 Roehampton was recently demolished at the future site of the project's second phase 38-storey north tower.
The adjacent building located to the south on Eglinton, which was up until recently the site of a Burger King fast food restaurant, has been taken down as well. Like the demolished buildings on Yonge Street, this site will be incorporated into the footprint of the larger 58-storey tower's podium.
Taking a peek behind the hoarding, we can see that crews are currently clearing the basement level of the former Burger King location, after which we can expect the site to be backfilled and levelled out to provide easy access for shoring equipment.
Once construction of the project concludes in 2017, E Condos will have added 854 condominium units to the rapidly intensifying area surrounding the intersection of Yonge and Eglinton, one of Toronto's most high-profile locations.
