Demolition is under way at 270 Spadina Avenue in the heart of Toronto's bustling Chinatown, in advance of construction for Dragon Condos, a 10-storey condominium from Ideal Developments. Designed by Young + Wright / IBI Group Architects, the development will be bringing 95 units to the area, ranging in size from 412 square feet to 901 square feet, plus over 5,000 square feet of new retail space at ground level. In the image below, we can see the rear of the property is being taken down first while the Spadina Avenue frontage remains - at least for now.

Before construction of the new development can begin, the existing structure which once was a cinema, is disappearing quickly. Coming up next will be shoring of the site, to allow the project's excavation to be dug once the shoring piles are in place. In the next image, much of 270 Spadina has already been taken down, with not much more than the Spadina Avenue facade remaining standing.

When construction of the project is complete in 2015, residents of Dragon Condos will have quick access to all of the shops and restaurants that Chinatown and Kensington Market offer, and a central location close to Toronto's Downtown. Inside their building a selection of amenities which include a rooftop terrace, bar, theatre, party and exercise rooms and even a yoga and pilates studio will be available.
