It has been quite some time since we last checked in on the construction progress of Lifetime Developments' The Bond, a 40-storey Core Architects-designed condominium development under construction on Adelaide Street, just west of John. Construction work on the 369-unit condo tower has brought it up to just below grade, so it is only a matter of a couple weeks before the building's ground level will be taking shape.

Once construction moves above grade at The Bond, contractor Skygrid Construction will have the seven-storey podium to make its way through before work here will finally appear to speed up: the relative ease of building the repetitive floors found in the tower make it seem like a large work force has finally arrived. The truth is closer to the being that a lot of custom form work has to go into the lower floors before concrete can be poured, as each floor tends to be different down around ground level. With tower floors, most often the same forms can be used again and again as the building rises.

The Bond is rising from a stretch of Adelaide Street West that has seen some major intensification over the past several years, with the newly completed Daniels' Cinema Tower and recently topped-off Pinnacle on Adelaide both standing across the street to the south. Several other high-rise condos are in various stages of planning, approvals and construction across the Entertainment District, which has rapidly risen to become one of Toronto's most densely populated communities.

To the north of The Bond is the Cineplex Scotiabank Theatre Complex which can be seen in most of the photos of this story as the large adjacent, mostly blank-walled building. The Bond has been designed to minimize views of this hulking building, and improve the urban landscape here for both the new residents and those who pass through the area.

Once the building is completed, residents at The Bond will have access to a familiar range of amenities designed bydesign by Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting Inc., including a 24-hour concierge, gym, party room, roof deck, sauna and a swimming pool.
