Yesterday Live Green Toronto opened up its call for submissions for its annual Live Green Awards. The Live Green Awards were created by Live Green Toronto, a City of Toronto program that promotes the greening of Toronto through programs, events, community grants and a website to help residents and businesses take action to reduce emissions, protect our climate and clean our air. Live Green Toronto was established in 2007 as part of the City's Climate Change, Clean Air and Sustainable Energy Action Plan which aims to reduce Toronto's greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Last year's winners included corporate winner the Simpson Tower, an office building at Bay and Queen that achieved and maintained its zero-waste status due to its recycling program. The group winner was the Toronto's Bicycle Music Festival which won based on its bike-powered acoustic systems. Other categories cover small businesses, individuals, and youth.
