The most prominent Ontario architectural firms and various emerging talents in the business are being honoured as recipients at the 2014 Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Awards, set to be held on May 9th. Selected from more than 170 submissions, recipients of the 15 Design Excellence Awards have been selected by a jury of peers from the design community based on factors including creativity, context, sustainability, overall design and legacy. Celebrating forward-thinking design and leadership in architecture, more than 30 winners in nine categories will be recognized at a formal awards ceremony in Montreal on May 9, 2014 as part of the OAA’s annual conference, but you don't need to wait until then as the winners have already been announced!

Lifetime Design Achievement Award:

The honour for career-long contribution to Architectural Design Excellence goes to architect Jerome Markson, designer of the successful Market Square development in Toronto's St. Lawrence District.

Order of da Vinci:

This award is presented to persons who have made a significant and meaningful contribution to the profession of architecture. This year's recipient of the Order of da Vinci is architect and journalist Gordon Grice.

People’s Choice:

The Ontario Association of Architects also invites members of the public to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award, with voting having launched earlier today and running until April 15, the public is encouraged to visit the OAA’s People’s Choice Award Page on the OAA website and pick their favourite new building from the 15 ‘Design Excellence’ Award winners.

The 2014 awards will be presented in Montreal on Friday May 9, 2014 at the OAA Celebration of Excellence Awards and Dinner hosted at the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. Additional awards to be announced at the event include ‘Best of Show’, the ‘Michael V. and Wanda Plachta Award’ as well as the much anticipated ‘People’s Choice’ selection.
