DUKE Condos, still in its pre-construction phase and slated for completion in 2015, has been nominated 12 times in 11 different categories for this year's BILD Awards. The BILD awards recognize excellence and innovation in the GTA's building and development community. This year's event will be held on April 25th at Paramount Event Venue in Woodbridge.

Among DUKE's slew of nominations is a nod in Best P2G, Potential to Give, Community of Year (High-Rise) category. This award goes to a developer—in this case TAS—for the smart growth or intensification of its community, taking everything from site planning and architecture to environmental preservation and streetscape into account. In their press release, TAS acknowledged its partners, thanking, "Quadrangle Architects, who created the building’s unique, geometric design, suite layouts and interiors; interior design firm, Mason Studio, who designed the highly stylized, local-focused presentation centre; Paul Johnston’s Unique Urban Homes, who spearheaded the sales strategy for the condominium; and L.A. Inc., who’s responsible for the project’s branding and marketing material design."

Other key nominations for those things about a new Toronto condo to call home are Best Suite Design under 750 ft2, and best suite design from 750 ft2 to 1,500 ft2. TAS has also been nominated for Green Home Builder of the year for the project.

Even though DUKE has yet to break ground, we have been paying particular attention to its sustainable and neighbourhood-friendly design. Some of the ways DUKE hopes to achieve this is creating a green roof, in-suite energy recovery ventilation (ERV) and terraces lined with harvest planters for home gardening, among others. TAS has coupled the development with the neighbourhood by sourcing the majority of DUKE's interior finishes and furnishings, like hardwood flooring and stone counter tops, from local trades and artisans. TAS also sponsors neighbourhood events like the Junction Flea Market.

Aside from the environmental consciousness, DUKE has excelled in other areas which have helped the development garner attention in other BILD categories. Its other nominations are in the marketing realm including Best Direct Mail, Best Brochure, Best Project Logo, Best Project Rendering, Best Video, Best Salesperson/Team, and Best Website.

These nominations will certainly bring more attention to this project and to the emerging Junction neighbourhood. We will see how well this early contender fares in late April at the awards.
