Yonge and Eglinton has been a major node in Toronto ever since the newly-opened Yonge subway line terminated there in 1954. The subway has since been extended north, but Eglinton station still serves more than the average number of bus lines, and the area has continued to be a major mid-city modal point. Now the new Crosstown LRT is on the way, and Yonge and Eglinton’s rate of growth has taken off again. The area currently contains several development sites in varying stages of planning, approvals and construction, but the furthest along is The Berwick and CityTowns by Andrin Homes and The Brown Group of Companies.

The 17-storey, Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed project topped off in late 2013, and since then work has shifted to the cladding of the exterior and the outfitting of interiors.

The lower floors of the project are currently seeing window installation while also being prepped for masonry cladding with the installation of metal frames and insulation. A brick veneer will next be applied, as seen in the project renderings (a full selection of which can be found in our linked dataBase file for the project).

While those renderings depict a reflective grayish-blue glazing and matching mullions on the tower floors, we are instead seeing dark window glazing and mullions with matte black spandrels for wall sections being applied to the exterior.

The Berwick also features a townhome section dubbed 'CityTowns'. Occupying the site’s entire Duplex Avenue frontage, the 20 connected townhomes rise three storeys and are each topped with their own private terrace.  Concrete work on the townhome portion is now complete, and cladding and interiors are soon to come.

Occupancy for the 205-unit development is slated for later this year. We will return to check in on The Berwick soon as work on the building’s later stages continues to progress.
