Several new construction projects made an impact on Toronto over the last year, and to help say goodbye to a year that will surely be remembered by construction and real estate industry professionals for decades, we have compiled photo-summaries of some of the most photographed construction projects spanning the length of 2013. For this instalment, we have rounded up a year’s worth of photos that document the growth of CHAZ Yorkville Condos, a 47-storey condominium tower by developer 45 Charles Ltd. and project manager Edenshaw Homes.

CHAZ started off 2013 as quite a deep hole in the ground. Excavation of the site was completed by mid-January, and footings for the tower crane were in place by the end of the month.

In February, CHAZ’s tower crane was assembled, marking the beginning of the project’s race back up to street level.

By April, the foundations were in place and the underground floors were under construction.

During June and July, work continued on CHAZ’s garage floors as the building approached grade.

August marked the milestone of the project reaching grade on Charles Street East.

By September, work was underway on the complicated podium levels, with concrete reaching the second floor by the end of the month.

When mid-October rolled around, work was already underway on the fourth level’s floor slab.

The project picked up the pace in November, as concrete work moved from the complicated podium levels on to the repetitive tower floorplates above, revealing the faceted shape of the Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects - designed project.

By the end of December, the tower stood at 12 storeys in height, with 35 levels to go before the final mechanical floors top the project off, likely in the fall of 2014. What's new to look at though are the first of the pre-fabricated limestone cladding panels which are now gracing the podium. We will look forward to more of them, and then the installation of the first glazing in coming months.
