Fashion House, located in the trendy King West neighbourhood, is set be completed this year by Freed Developments. A major draw to this building from the very first renderings has been the rich crimson curtains that adorn the windows which overlook King Street. The intention of these luxurious coverings is to celebrate this particular stretch of King West’s historical roots as part of Toronto’s Fashion District, according to designers Core Architects and Studio CK.

The crimson coverings are now going in, and with the glow at night thanks to built-in LED lighting strips, we are getting our first views of this eye-catching aesthetic.

While these coverings are bold, there would be obvious concern with the colour holding up in the long-term. Red pigmentation is notorious for fading quickly from UV exposure, but the curtains have made from a modern fabric formulated to resist fading, so frequent replacement of the coverings should not be an issue. The curtains, which individual owners of the units must maintain, are the responsibility of the condo corporation to replace when needed. The curtains are backed and with a neutral colour and do not appear red from inside the unit.
