The nonstop technological advancements of the information age have brought about an era where cameras are more affordable and accessible than ever, and as a result, photography has become a fundamental staple in how we communicate with one another in the 21st century. With all the recent steps forward in telecommunications, photographic and photo sharing technologies, very few of us ever leave home without some form of camera. Whether it is built in to a mobile device or in a heavy camera bag, we have all become photographers at heart. Take for example the UrbanToronto Forum, where countless photographers both amateur and professional contribute their shots of our rapidly growing city.  The wide body of both documentary and artistic talent found on the UT Forum make it simultaneously difficult and easy to select our weekly pick for Photographer of the Week.  This week, however, was an easier choice than others.  Due to his impressive wave of photographic contributions over the past couple of weeks, we selected Forum member ‘Jasonzed’, known beyond the Forum as Jason Zytynsky, as this week’s UrbanToronto Photographer of the Week.

Originally from Montreal, Jason moved to Hogtown in the Wendel Clark glory days of 1991, taking residence in The Annex neighbourhood upon arrival, before eventually moving to Mississauga. His lifelong interests, which include construction, architecture, exploring neighbourhoods and photography, all came together in 2006 during the early stages of the Absolute World development in Missisauga, at which point he discovered UrbanToronto.

Like many UT members, Jason enjoys the idea of watching a city grow and mature, as he has witnessed for the past two decades. Always searching for new and different angles of buildings and architecture, Jason also provides some stunning shots of construction projects and city infrastructure.

For the past few years Jason has been using a Fujifilm HS10 point-and-shoot, but he has recently graduated to a Nikon D7100 DSLR – though he still keeps a Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot handy for the odd quick snapshot.

We are very excited to see more work from Jason, who is purchasing a DJI Phantom Heli-drone capable of taking photos from 1000 feet up in the sky, which should afford him some top-notch angles on our growing city once it arrives at the end of the week.

We will return next week to feature another photographer from our Forum. Think you've got what it takes? Grab a camera or mobile device and get to work, then post your content in the Forum, and you just may find yourself featured in next week’s article!
