Yonge and Eglinton’s future as a major TTC transit hub is serving as a catalyst for redevelopment in the thriving mixed-use communities surrounding the intersection. Sharing the same large block as Eglinton Station, the construction site for Andrin Homes and The Brown Group of CompaniesThe Berwick and CityTowns has been making considerable progress as of late towards its goal of 17 storeys.

Since our last visit at the end of August, the then-8-storey construction site has risen to 12 storeys, with just five residential floors left to build before work begins on the mechanical penthouse level that will top it all off.

With the tower portion of the Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed development nearing the top, a construction hoist has been installed on the southeast side of the tower to facilitate easier movement of workers, hardware and building materials up the building.

From the southwest, the terraced setbacks of the tower are clearly visible. Four of the final five residential floors will also feature terraced setbacks as the tower’s footprint decreases in area for each level it rises.

Looking at the project from the west, on Duplex Avenue, the tower’s curved western façade seemingly pays homage to the frequently filmed spiral parking garage ramp to the immediate east, now hidden from this vantage point by several storeys of concrete and steel.

The townhome portion and parking garage entrance on the northern half of the site, slowed by groundwater issues early on, has now caught up with the rest of the development, and walls have been poured for the first floor of CityTowns at The Berwick.

At the northern edge of the site, a portable concrete pump continues to feed concrete in to what will soon become one of the 205 condominium units being built for this project.
