Here's something pretty cool you don't see every day. At first glance it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, but once you take in the circular machine-bored tunnel and the fact that this image was captured here in Toronto, it becomes clear that this is a shot from inside one of our newer subway tunnels. This section of the Yonge Line, just north of Eglinton, was cut in 1973 as our subway lines were expanding into inner suburbs like North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke. Thanks to Jack Landau for this stunning photo of a sight that is impossible to spot with the naked eye, and eventually won't be possible at all once the new Toronto Rocket articulated trains supplant the existing front-windowed fleet.
