Toronto has always embraced its connection with both nature and urbanity. The vast network of rivers and ravines that meander through the city stand as a vestige of the wilderness that once dominated our now-thriving region. Despite all of the forests and streams lost to centuries of growth, nature has found a way to even the score by taking back from man. The man-made Leslie Street Spit, originally constructed as an artificial breakwater for a never-realized "Outer Harbour," has been reclaimed by nature over the past 50 or so years, creating an unintentional haven for migratory birds as well as a long list of other native species. Today's photo of the day, taken at Tommy Thompson Park on the Leslie Steet Spit, captures Toronto's fine balance between the urban and the natural.
