A number of highrise buildings in Toronto are taking on an undulating façade, a treatment that yields a more dynamic profile than with evenly stacked floorplates. Case in point: Context Development's Market Wharf, designed by architectsAlliance. The balconies, whose slab edges vary along their length, create various shadow effects when viewed from different angles and provide lots of visual interest. The east and west elevations have a wave-like reading across them and staggered, jagged north and south sides.
