On a day when we are reporting on the awarding of a Diamond Jubliee Medal to Daniels' President Mitchell Cohen, we also catch up with one of the several projects the company is developing in the city.

Concrete is now flowing at NY2, The Daniels Corporation’s newest addition to their award-winning NY Towers development. We recently stopped by the now fully-excavated site on Sheppard Avenue, just east of Bayview, to check in on recent progress. Foundation work has begun for the 7-storey residential development, which will contain a mix of 140 condominium and rental units as well as ground floor retail.

Though the site is currently inundated with mud caused by the on-again off-again spring thaw, work continues unabated. In the photos below, we take an in-depth look at the current state of NY2’s construction, including ongoing work on the building’s northern footings.

A select number of the residential units within the Core Architects-designed project are being sold through Daniels’ acclaimed Rent-2-Own program, in which the resident submits a portion of their first year's monthly rent towards a down payment on their suite. The Rent-2-Own program has been a huge hit among first-time buyers, looking to stake their own claim in Toronto’s condo-rush. Once completed in 2014, NY2’s amenities will include a gym, party room and roof deck, as well as less-conventional features such as a Wi-Fi café lounge and outdoor gardening plots. In addition, residents will have doorstep access to both the Bayview Subway station and Bayview Village Shopping Centre.
