Infastructure Ontario and Sheridan College have issued a request for qualifications to design, build and finance Phase II of the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus development in Mississauga. Sheridan is looking to pre-qualify project teams that will bring Phase II to fruition. This is exciting news for Mississauga after the success of Phase I. The first phase, located next to Square One, was designed by Rounthwaite Dick & Hadley Architects Inc., and was completed in the fall of 2011. The new project will be located on the existing campus and will be approxmately 184,000 square feet. It will contain state-of-the-art classrooms, computer laboratories, a Centre of Creative Thinking, and gallery space for student work.

This photo shows the first phase of the campus, and gives us a good view of the hard geometric lines and the mixture of curves that give this building a sturdy commanding look. Below we can see the back side of the building along with the stunning park crisscrossed by a myriad of pathways, dividing up grassy and paved areas. The next phase of the school will sit to the west of the park where there is currently a surface parking lot.

The expansion will allow Sheridan to increase the range of programs it can offer at the campus and accommodate up to an additional 3,200 full-time students. The provincial government is committing 60 million dollars to the project. To learn more about the development, links to both our UrbanToronto dataBase entry and Forum thread can be found below.
