According to BNN, there is a deal in the works to bring major retail space to King West on the site of Globe and Mail's head office. In what is being described as a "mini Eaton Centre," developers RioCan and Allied Properties REIT are close to reaching a deal that would bring 500,000 square feet of mid- to high-end retail space to the Globe's old site and take advantage of the thousands of new residents who call the area home, as condos have sprung up all around King and Spadina in recent years. The project could also include a hotel and residences in addition to the retail space.

As we have reported previously, the Globe and Mail is moving its head office a few doors east of where it currently sits to the corner of Front and Spadina, thus opening the site to development.
