Heritage Toronto’s annual awards play an important role in drawing attention to those responsible for promoting and protecting our city’s unique heritage. The 38th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards are being held on Tuesday, October 9th in the KPMB-designed Koerner Hall, at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

The awards span a number of fields, drawing light to the various ways in which heritage can be celebrated and remembered. Of particular relevance to UrbanToronto readers is the William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship category. Projects such as the James Cooper Mansion, Canadian Stage Company Theatre, Hubbard Park Apartments, the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre and St. Clements Anglican Church are vying for top spot.

Other categories include books, media and community heritage. Mark Osbaldeston’s follow-up book Unbuilt Toronto 2 is one entry that has been featured on Urban Toronto in the past, while the NFB’s One Millionth Tower sparked plenty of interest amongst UT Forum members for its innovative proposals to address our aging apartment stock.

For the first time this year Heritage Toronto is offering student-priced tickets at $15, with general admission at $30. For more information on the awards including this year’s William Kilbourn Lecture, presented by Chief Bryan LaForme, check out Heritage Toronto’s website here
