Awash with neon signs, Yonge Street was electric. Looking south from the intersection of Yonge & Dundas, the frenetic pulse of the street fills the image even in the absence of colour. Taken before the opening of the Yonge subway in 1954, much of the energy on this part of Yonge was inverted and pulled inwards with the opening of the Eaton Centre. Since partially recaptured with the construction of Dundas Square, this intersection, however altered, remains the commercial heart of the city.
