A dying gasp of an architectural movement that was battered and in retreat, Ederhard Zieldler's Ontario Place is a monument to optimism expressed in glass and white steel. Opened in 1971, it was once the fifth most-visited theme park in the world but has since seen attendance drop so substantially that the provincial government shuttered the park earlier this year. With a panel appointed to study ways to revitalize the park, it is hoped that the cluster of modernist structures, including the light studded triodetic Cinesphere, will be preserved and restored to their original space age aesthetic.
