Our walk around the Yonge-Eglinton and Yonge-Davisville neighbourhood saw us begin at MYC Condos by Cresford Developments just south of Yonge and Davisville. After taking a brief detour along the picturesque Kay Gardner Belt Line we made our way a few blocks north to the future location of Allure Condos by Greenpark Homes. Located at the corner of Yonge Street and Glebe, the project saw its hoarding arrive while we were passing by, indicating that the demolition of the current buildings on site is iminent.

Allure is Greenpark's first development within Toronto, having built extensively outside the city in Markham, Vaughan and Brampton. Project architects Page + Steele / IBI Group designed the 10-storey condominium, which will contain 197 units with at-grade retail. The development's marketing campaign — a fashion-forward young woman avoiding eye contact while holding a blackberry away from her ear — is clearly meant to attract a specific clientelle, hoping to draw the young urban professional demographic a few blocks south from bustling Yonge and Eglinton.

This stetch of Yonge between Eglinton and Davisville has seen little in the way of development; most of the businesses along Yonge are two-storey retail, comprising an assortment of restaurants, specialty stores and businesses. With the construction of Allure midway between the two intersections we can assume more developers will begin seeing the stretch as a viable location for future condominiums.

Allure is sure to change the existing small-town streetscape on this stretch of Yonge; what form do you think development should take on Yonge Street, and do you think the two-storey retail nature of the street should be preserved while we see increased development at the northern and southern nodes? Let us know below, and be sure to head over to Allure's dataBase listing to see all of the project renderings.
