We were invited to 33 Bay at the Pinnacle Centre last week because penthouses were going on sale on the 48th, 49th, and 50th floors, and Pinnacle knew we would love the views. They were right of course, we're a pushover for things like that… and the idea is that if you are too, and you might want to own one of those views. That's all obvious, and it would be disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

While it was not a surpise that the views would be good from up there, we were still impressed by just how good they were. There was another surprise in store for us though, and it came before we even saw the views: the elevator ride up to the 50th revealed there were more storeys in this building than we had realized, and the elevator goes all the way up to the 52nd in fact. I asked, as you would have, what was up there.

While the 48th, 49th, and 50th floors have seven penthouses each, it turns out that the 51st and 52nd floors feature a final three penthouses. They are not finished, and not on sale yet, but we were allowed up nevertheless. Of the three up top – we'll call them the Grand Penthouses – one is half of the 51st floor, the next is partly on the 51st and the 52nd, and the last is on the 52nd, and continues up onto the 53rd. We thought you might enjoy a tour.

So look at that: a double height living/dining/kitchen area in 5201 – quite the space! They are south, west, and even north views from those windows, from the lake through to downtown. Views towards upstairs too, where there's a huge master bedroom suite of rooms, when you get closer to the windows then spin around.

Not the worst view in a condo in Toronto, finishing work complete or not. I love that I can plunk a Rodin on that ledge – no, wait, a Brancusi – and have I got a Calder to suspend above the whole room!

Moving through the suite of rooms up here to another corner, an east view holds another surprise: this floor works around the mechanical units at the top of the building, and provides a view of the HVAC system evaporators. The view below aims a little northeast…

…while this next one aims southeast. You can see a stone-lined floor at the bottom of the image. Whoever moves here will need to appreciate the somewhat zen concrete mechanical garden on the east side. Not everyone's cup of tea, but extremely cool for someone who appreciates what is usually a behind-the-scenes view. Talk about industrial chic! I think this secret garden makes the unit worth twice what the other two up here are. I would plant a couple ornamental pines, and start raking those stones into ridges.

The main outdoors view though, is on the west side of the units. This southwards shot features the upper terrace of the 51st-52nd floor penthouse, with the terraces of the 52nd-53rd floor unit past the privacy screen.

Spinning around, we're on the 53rd storey here, looking back to where the previous shot was taken. We get a good view of terraces for both of the double-floor penthouses up here. The third grand penthouse is only hinted at in this shot by the privacy screen you can see (below) at the bottom of the image.

Finally, one more shot focusing a little more on the downtown core from the terraces of the 51st-52nd floor unit.

These are pretty wild suites, and I'm sorry we don't have more interior shots or floor plans at this point, but we will try to bring them to you as finishing work progresses up here. One can only imagine the parties that will someday be thrown on these terraces. If the host turns out to be someone who read about the units first on UrbanToronto, well, we'll expect an invite!

The 33 Bay details can be found below in UrbanToronto's dataBase listing for the complex. If the shots make have you reaching for your keyboard, you can join in the discussion by clicking on one of the associated forum thread links below too.
