This shot was taken from the corner of Yonge Street and Stouffville Road in Richmond Hill, by Forum member jaycola. With skyline pictures taken from a series of predictable locations downtown, there is little variation in the perspectives they provide. So it's always refreshing to see a view of the city from an unexpected vantage point. Looking down Yonge Street, we can see the steady march of development moving northward along this most vital artery. Beginning in earnest with the completion of the Yonge subway in 1954, the street has been the site of a remarkable amount of reinvention. With modest low-rise buildings giving way to a vast arrangement of apartments, condos and office buildings, Yonge Street is at the forefront of urban growth, a conduit through which the city reaches out and transforms the land at its frontier.
