The expansion of Yorkdale Mall, the extension of the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line and the development proposals for Downsview Park evidence the growing attention being paid to the northern neighbourhoods of Toronto. Along with infrastructural developments, such as the subway and the park, we're seeing a growing number of condominiums arising, encouraged by accessible transportation and inexpensive land compared to downtown. Gramercy Park Condos is one such project, located just east of Wilson and Allen Road. Developed by Malibu Investments and designed by Page + Steele Architects, the project is currently under construction following a lengthy sales period. Forum member drum118 stopped by the site recently to capture the construction process underway.

The images above show the southern façade of the development. A two-storey glass building will contain the lobby on the main floor, with a swimming pool, fitness centre, theatre and deck on the second floor.

The project derives its name from New York City's famous Gramercy Park, a private fenced-in park located in Manhattan. The model was adopted from the London garden square model, private gardens that dot the city, accessible only to those residents who live around the square and pay for maintenance. While the condominium lacks the historic precedent of its namesake, it will contain a central courtyard with inward-facing units.

The project will also contain retail in an attempt to bring some life to this stretch of Wilson Avenue.
