Ion Condominiums, a project we reported on back in August of last year, has officially announced its grand opening, and with it some more information for potential purchasers. Developed by Cityzen Development Group and Fernbrook Homes, Ion will be located at Keele and Wilson in the city's northwest end.

A leaked rendering in August caught our attention with its unique massing and what appeared to be terracing on the eastern side (left side of the image above), as well as a bright red pop on the façade where the entrance is located, however we had yet to hear who the project architect was. The recent press release doesn't specify as to who the architect is or the interior designer is but a comment from Cityzen on the project forum informed us that Mark Zwicker of Architecture Unfolded is behind the design.

The project is catering to first-time buyers and those looking for an investment, with prices starting at $250,000. Containing 200 suites, Cityzen and Fernbrook are offering a variety of floorplans, from 300 square foot bachelors to two bedroom plus dens starting at 915 square feet. Amenities will include a party room, dining room with kitchenette, a guest suite, theatre, gym, yoga studio and outdoor terrace.

Emphasis has been placed on its location close to major arteries such as Keele, highways 401, 400 and 407, as well as TTC access with the expansion of the Yonge-University-Spadina line north to York University. It's also directly across from the future Humber River Regional Hospital, a massive regional acute care hospital scheduled for completion in 2015 that will serve more than 850,000 residents in the northwest GTA.

The project's preview opening in November was followed up by an announcement that units were selling fast, nearing 70% and evidencing the demand for such units outside the downtown core.
