Today's Project of the Day is one that we have been anxiously following, and hope to get you all back into the swing of how it's developing thus far. CHAZ Yorkville, developed by 45 Charles Ltd. and Edenshaw Homes, is a new condominium located on Charles Street, between Yonge and Church. Designed by Page and Steele/IBI Group, with interiors by Cecconi Simone, the tower is slated for completion in 2013.

CHAZ Yorkville

The building replaces a former commercial office building located on Charles Street — while the previous building will be completely demolished, the architects were inspired by its avant garde architecture, and have incorporated its angular and geometric design into the new project.

Our Forums has seen a lot of debate around the design of Chaz, which is anything but typical. Sharp angles create unique corners and frame unconventional city views for residents, while a floating box containing the "Chaz Club"on the 36th and 37th floors will offer a gorgeous panorama of downtown Toronto.

The two-storey Chaz Club

CHAZ Yorkville is yet another condominium in the Yonge/Bloor real estate area competing for buyers — pulling purchasers from the Yorkville, Church and Wellesley, and Midtown neighbourhoods. CHAZ appeals to the young urban professional class who desire to be surrounded by a variety of urban districts and amenities.

Recent Forum discussion has been centred around the never-ending height variances for which developers are applying. The first design of this project called for 36 storeys, and was later increased to 39-storeys, and recently an application was submitted for a 46-storey tower. We hope they can settle on an appropriate height soon, as we are more than excited to see the addition of this unique project to the Toronto skyline!
