It was a different world 50 years ago when plazas like this were all the rage. They were considered the future then, but that future has not aged very well, and much of it is considered suburban wasteland now. That suburban wasteland is epitomized quite well by today's Quick Pic, taken by Urban Toronto forum member drum118. Located at the northeast corner of Lawrence and Dufferin, this mall features a hodgepodge of architectural styles surrounded by massive, half-empty parking lots. Certainly something we at Urban Toronto are not fond of.

Luckily massive population growth in the greater Toronto area is resulting in plans to redevelop these plazas. In this case Lanterra Developments is planning to redo this plaza in question with the Treviso Condos. Consisting of three towers coming in at 24, 20 and 15 storeys, with 8 storey podiums surrounding, this project will bring instant urbanism to the corner.

Here we see phase one, the 20 story building anchoring the east side of the site.

All of this can be seen in the site plan. Phase 1 is the building group in the lower right corner.

We are very happy to see this Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects designed project proceed. Phase two will be launching soon and you can get more information by registering here. Tell them Urban Toronto says hi!

More from the wasteland that today is Dufferin and Lawrence here.
