Today's Photo Of The Day, by Urban Toronto forum member vz64, shows TBM assembly beginning for the Spadina Subway extension. Four TBMs, or tunnel boring machines, will dig the tunnels for the 8.6km extension.

Here we see TBM parts located near the future Downsview Park station, where "Torkie" and "Yorkie" will be lowered down a vertical shaft into the ground. The machines are built by Toronto-based Lovat Corporation, a world leader in tunnelling technology.

The extension to the existing Spadina subway line will include six new stations, including one at York University. The line will terminate at Hwy 7 and Jane.
