The first tower at Amexon's Humber Bay Shores 27-storey twin-tower development South Beach Condos and Lofts, topped out a couple of months ago now, and work has been progressing on the finishing details to the exterior. Most of the attention paid to South Beach of late in UrbanToronto has concerned the fins which will race down each face of the building. While those have not appeared yet, the glazing for the first tower's roof lantern is all but finished.

We are particularly interested in the roofline here as the renderings of the II by IV Design Associates and Arsenault Architect-designed complex show that the tops of these towers will glow. Renderings are always a bit short on fine details such as mullion caps and the like, so we did not really know how the lanterns would be realized precisely. Now that a lantern has been built, we think the translucent glazing looks great - you can see sun shining through the panes at the right time of the day - and we're looking forward to the first nighttime shows. While tower two, the green tower below, is obviously not above ground level yet, the nighttime blue glow from tower one is still likely several months off.
