Vancouver developers have been adding significant density to Toronto's core for a while now, most notably at CityPlace and more recently at the Pinnacle Centre. Now, another West Coaster arrives on downtown's doorstep as the Onni Group of Companies get sets to launch their multi-phase Fort York Neighbourhood complex known as The Yards.
The first building at The Yards will be the Garrison, an integrated 11 storey tower and 8 storey podium sited right across Fort York Boulevard from the fort, and screening a good deal of the fort from the Gardiner Expressway. Rudy Wallman Architects has designed the building to compliment Fort York's colour and material palettes. Notably, southern exterior walls facing the expressway "will feature a random horizontal pattern inspired by the movement of cars at night"... although we have seen no renders or models yet to understand exactly what that means. Urban Toronto looks forward to bringing to its readers further renderings, model shots, and site plans of the complex as they become available.
